Since irrigation plays a crucial role in the agriculture sector through out Pakistan, and particularly in Sindh province, the above named Institute was established in 1987 to cater for specialized needs of the irrigation and drainage systems.

The Institute of Irrigation and Drainage Engineering offers full-time (morning and evening) programs for studies leading to the degrees of M.E., M.Phil. and Ph.D. as well as part-time programs for M.Phil. and Ph.D.
