Online Declamation Contest Organized by Department of Electronic Engineering, MUET Jamshoro

The department of Electronic Engineering has organized the online declamation contest on January 27th, 2021 for the students of Electronic Engineering. The event was held at Audio-Video conference room, IICT building, Mehran UET Jamshoro. The event were presided by Prof. Dr. Arbab Nighat Kalhoro, Chairperson, Department of Electronic Engineering. Prof. Dr. Mukhtiar Ali Unar, Dean Faculty of Electrical Electronics and Computer Systems Engineering was the chief guest of the contest. The event was coordinated by departmental Event Management Committee (DEMC) under the convener ship of Engr. Kamran Kazi. Dr. Attiya Baqai, Engr. Khuhed Memon, Engr. Aamir Patoli, also coordinated the event.  The aim of organizing this online Declamation Contest was to give a platform to students to demonstrate their extra-curricular talent and to present and polish their communication skills. More than 80 participants attended this online event from all batches of Electronic Engineering department.

The event started with the recitation of Holy Quran. The Chairperson formally commenced the event by welcoming the participants, jury members, faculty and audience. The declamation contest was divided in three rounds. For the screening round (before the contest), the students submitted their video recording of one minute for the jury to select them according to the presentation skills and quality of content along with time management. The topic for this video submission was “My vision of Education in Pakistan”. The declamation language for all the rounds was English/Urdu as per participants’ preference. 20 best speakers were selected out of all the video entries for the day of event after the competitive evaluation. The selected participants and attendees joined the event online via MS Teams.

In second round, the participants prepared their speech beforehand on a topic of their choice from given theme areas and presented their speeches in 3-minute slots. The second-round speeches were judged on the basis of content, presentation, language and time management. Four best speakers were selected for the final round, which was extemporaneous speech. The participants were given a random topic from their selected theme area.

The event was evaluated by an esteemed panel of judges that included Mr. Javed Iqbal Larik from Basic Sciences and Related Studies Mehran UET, Mr. Asghar Ali Sahito from Sindh University, Dr. Nasrullah Pirzada from Telecommunication Department, Mehran UET and Dr. Shoaib Soomro from Electronic Engineering Department, Mehran UET. The respected panel shared their views with the faculty and students at the end of event and appreciated the organization for an online event in the times of pandemic. The judges also addressed the students and guided them in the areas that needed improvements.

The chief guest Prof. Dr. Mukhtiar Ali Unar also took the stage to praise the students for taking such keen interest in this online event and appreciated the efforts of the department and organizing committee.

The event was formally concluded with announcement of results and vote of thanks from Dr. Attiya Baqai. The contest discovered quite a few powerful speakers however the top place was tied and secured by the students of 19 Batch Huria Shumail (19ES20) and Laiba Qureshi (19ES10). The Runners up slot was also tied and secured by Shahzaib Ali (19ES52) and Nazeer Ahmed (19ES35) from 19 Batch. The prize distribution ceremony is planned to be held when students are in campus.
