Telecommunication Department Students Bagged 1st Prize at 5th Invention to Innovation Summit 2016

5th Invention to Innovation Summit 2016 and Expo organized by Punjab University (PU), Office of Research Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC) in collaboration with the University of Management and Technology (UMT) and Pakistan Science Foundation (PSF), held in the premises of PU - New Campus on 2nd – 3rd March 2016.

From Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) following team comprises of faculty members and students from the Dept. of Telecommunication Engineering (TLE) participated.

Dr. Muhammad Ashraf, Chairman, PSF; Dr. Hasan Sohaib Murad, Rector, UMT; Mr. Abid Sherwani, CEO, Institute of Research Promotion (IRP); Dr. Aamir Ijaz, Director, ORIC, PU; faculty members and research scholars from various universities and a large number of students participated in the summit.


Engr. Nafeesa Bohra, Receiving SATHA Innovative Idea Award from the Chief Guest, Mr. Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami during SATHA Annual Dinner held on 2nd March 2016.

The summit, in addition to seminars, included an exhibition of marketable ideas, technologies and products. The aim of the summit was to promote innovation and commercialization of research in Pakistan. Around 150 hardware, software and general projects/posters were presented by the teachers/students teams from various universities of Pakistan in the Expo. Projects were evaluated by a panel of highly qualified faculty from different universities of Pakistan.

Mehran UET teachers/students team presented and demonstrated FOUR projects, i.e.,  ‘Security and Surveillance System’, ‘Smart Farming using Underwater Wireless Sensor Networks (UWSNs)’, ‘Green Smart IoT Home Automation’ and ‘IBOS – E-Health kit’ which were highly admired by the participants in a two-day event.

Altogether 30 Awards were distributed; 10 in poster and 20 on projects displayed by Industry and Academia. The project titled “Smart Farming using UWSNs”, was in the list of 30 innovative ideas and is awarded with the “South Asia Triple Helix Association (SATHA) Award”. The project was supervised by, Engr. Nafeesa Bohra under the umbrella of DEWSNet Research Group. This project also won the 1st position in the category of “Best project” and also is on top in the category of Stall Awards. MUET and Dept. of TLE is proud of all the faculty members and students who displayed their projects.
