Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology is the largest discipline in terms of student enrollment, faculty, and infrastructure. It provides essential and advances in engineering education according to the requirements of the field. The department has more than 50 years of history of producing high-quality graduates who make a real difference globally.
In addition to the undergraduate program of the Civil Engineering (B.E. in Civil Engineering), the department also offers various postgraduate degrees such as Master of Engineering (M.E.), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in the following fields.
        Civil Engineering
        Construction Management
        Geotechnical and Highways Engineering
        Structural Engineering
The curriculum of all the programs is designed according to the present demands of the construction industry by involving the industry experts.
Theory classes of different subjects are complemented by tutorials and laboratory works, for which adequate facilities with equipment have been established. Besides, the students are taken to field visits of the Civil Engineering projects such as water distribution structures, bridge & building structures, road construction works, geotechnical works, etc. During the summer vacations, the students are also sent on various Civil Engineering projects in the form of internships to the organizations such as WAPDA, NESPAK, NHA, C&W Department, Irrigation Department, etc. This is to expose them to practical engineering knowledge being implemented.
The various fields of specialization are also introduced to the final year students by assigning them a thesis project. The thesis projects may be specific to a branch of Civil Engineering like Structural, Geotechnical, Irrigation, Environmental, and Highway Engineering and Construction Management, etc.

The department has a well-organized society of students which is actively engaged in conducting several curriculum & extra curriculum activities such as seminars, workshops, training, short courses, sports events, debates, competitions, etc.
The department has recently moved on to the Outcome-Based Education (OBE) system to meet the criteria of the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) as per the Washington Accord. All the class tests, class & field assignments and semester exams are being assessed based on specific course learning objectives associated with each course. This student-centric approach focuses on outcomes from the individual student by the end of the course.

All the classrooms of the department are equipped with multimedia tools. The laboratories are equipped with the latest equipment and tools and are supervised by the highly experienced faculty and technical staff.
