Department of Textile Engineering: The First Student Research Paper Conference 2012

The Department of Textile Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology Jamshoro Pakistan, held its First Student Research Paper Conference (SRPC) 2012 successfully. The SRPC2012 was a research conference of the international conferences standard, and also a competition among undergraduate and postgraduate students of the department for the best papers and the best presentations. It was the first conference of its kind in Mehran University where students participated as authors and presenters of research papers. The conference was aimed to promote the research culture and awareness of such conferences in the department.

Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Pathan and Prof. Dr. Anwaruddin Tanwari, were the Patrons of the conference. Mr. Faisal Ansari, a gold medalist senior graduate currently working as a Research and Development Manager at Popular Fabrics Ltd. Karachi, was the Chief Guest. The conference was chaired and convened by Dr. Awais Khatri and hosted by Ms. Umaima Saleem. Dr. Mazhar Hussain Peerzada, Dr. Uzma Syed, Dr. Noorullah Soomro, and Dr. Sheeraz Memon were the experts of the paper review committee and the panel of Judges. Other members of the organizing committee were Mr. Farooq Ahmed Arain, Mr. Shamshad Ali Shaikh, Ms. Sanam Irum Memon, Ms. Sadaf Aftab Abbasi, Mr. Abdul Wahab Jatoi, Mr. Iftikhar Ali Sahito, Ms. Alvira Ayoub, Ms. Sidra Saleemi, Ms. Rabia Almas Arain, Mr. Samander Ali Malik, Mr. Naveed Mengal, Mr. Nadir Ali Rind, and Mr. Abdul Wahab Memon.

The conference proceedings started with the recitation of Holy Verses of the Glorious Quran by Mr. Muzammil Khatri, followed by the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Anwaruddin Tanwari, the Conference Patron. The Conference Chairman, Dr. Awais Khatri, briefed about the conference and thanked all experts, organizers, participants and attendees. Prof. Dr. Abdul Ghani Pathan, the Conference Patron in Chief, expressed his gratitude for such event and highlighted the importance of the research and research conferences. Mr. Faisal Ansari, the Chief Guest, appreciated the efforts for the conference, and then pointed out some areas where students of the department must focus for improving the worth of a fresh graduate in the textile industry and market. Then, the Conference Chairman presented souvenirs to the Chief Guest, the Patron in Chief and the Patron. After the key speeches, the Chief Guest declared the conference sessions open for presentations. The oral presentations of the papers by students were rated very-good and there was a tough competition among students. Finally, the winner students, organizers and participants were awarded with prizes and certificates by the Chief Guest.
