Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro Organizes Second Edition of TEDxMUET

On 26th September 2022, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro hosted the second edition of TEDxMUET, an independently organized TED event at the auditorium of the US Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water, MUET.
TEDxMUET was curated by students and faculty members of MUET. The event was attended by 100 participants including students, faculty members, alumni, media persons, and social activists.
The event was inaugurated with the welcome address by Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali, vice chancellor of MUET. The vice chancellor welcomed all the speakers and participants of the event. Prof. Dr. Tauha Hussain Ali highlighted the success stories of the university and their efforts to provide relief to flood affectees during recent floods in Sindh. He also appreciated the efforts of the organizers for arranging an internationally recognized event for the second time.
The event was followed by the talks of 6 speakers – who shared the ideas worth spreading to foster learning and innovation in the region.
The first speaker of the event, Mr. Syed Ali Hameed, who is also chairperson and founder of Shaoor Foundation talked about peace-making initiatives. His focus-driven kickstart talk on peace influenced the greater audience and connected them spiritually.
The second Speaker of the event, Dr. Sabieh Anwar, an educationist, and physicist, led his talk on science education as the most powerful empowering movement. He shed light on relating metaphysics with the world and its importance in Pakistan and for peers.
A notable Pakistani woman, known for her societal contributions, Dr. Afia Salam, who is also a journalist and media development specialist, enlightened the subject of the current flood situation in Pakistan. She shared her mission and experience of visiting the affected areas by brilliantly delivering a talk on it with the context of climate change and emphasized on - how we can come forward to help the affectees by doing our part with the community services at this most crucial time.
Mr. Ghulam Hyder Daudpota, a professional traditional artist and educationist, shared his journey from a small town of Sindh, Nasarpur to the United Kingdom. Everywhere he went he represented the lost traditional art of Pakistan undervalued yet much appreciated and liked in the foreign. He continued his talk with his success story and shared the honorable moments with Prince Charles III on receiving the Jerwood award.
Mr. Dileep Kumar Hotwani gave a talk on “Transforming Pain to Power”. He shared his life journey of shaking tragedies and struggles. His talk moved the attendees with pure appreciation and joy for him that could be witnessed in the eyes of the attendees.
The last speaker, Mr. Tufail Memon, a social worker, and rural development activist, presented his talk on social work and his mission of zero hunger. He shared his journey, challenges, and achievements. His philanthropy and humanitarian work can be regarded as a great service to the entire nation. His work in the upliftment of women and children in the underprivileged parts of our country stands unparalleled. His talk titled “Lifting Yourself by Your Own Bootstraps” was an apt description of his life manifesto: he believes that only through education and training of our women and children can we achieve true prosperity.
The audience was entertained with a thought-provoking performance, “Haya Ki Kahani”, an Urdu stage play, made by the members of Mehran University Debating and Dramatic Society. They threw a beacon on cybersecurity awareness with a layman girl named Haya’s story and portrayed a message with ways to deal with such situations.
The conference also featured an art gallery presented by students of the department of architecture, MUET. The art gallery featured the traditional artist and architect’s work on different models designed keeping in view the current situation of floods and climate change.
In the end, the attendees, speakers, and organizing team members were awarded the certificates and goodie bags. Licensee and lead organizer of the event Engr. Salman ul Mouzam Abbasi, along with advisory board members, executive team members, volunteers, and hosts of the event Mr. Saqib Abro and Ms. Kashaf Khusk were acknowledged for making the second edition of TEDxMUET a huge success. The conference ended with the vote of thanks by Prof. Dr. Zeeshan Khatri, chair of advisory board TEDxMUET and chairman department of textile engineering, MUET.
