Memorandum of Understanding Signed between MUET and SSGC

Mehran University of Engineering and Technology, Jamshoro and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have signed Memorandum Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on various areas of research and development for the mutual benefit.  The MOU signing ceremony was held at SSGC head office, Karachi on 20th March 2019. Prof. Dr. Mukhtiar, Dean Faculty of Electrical, Electronic and Computer Engineering led the MUET team at the signing ceremony whereas Mr. Imran Farooqi, Deputy Managing Director (CS) led the SSGC team. Following are the key of cooperation under this MOU.

  1. To engage in research and development of projects by utilizing the resources & capabilities of both organizations for mutual interests.
  1. To organize the lectures, conferences, and workshops regarding energy conservation, efficiency & technological advancements.
  2. Providing opportunities to MUET students for purpose-built internships.
  3. Educational training and sharing of labs/infrastructure.
  4. SSGC may offer financial assistance to research project teams subject to the approval of SSGC’s Management Committee & availability of funds.
  5. To facilitate the exchange of information including, but not limited to (taking into consideration pre-existing rights, contracts, and confidentiality agreements) academic materials and research publications.
  6. To work on UFG (Unaccounted for Gas), energy efficiency, technological advancements of gas related appliances, pipeline integrity management, and gas theft control.
  7. Exchange of expertise and know-how of best practices/strategies to enhance operational efficiency, advance gas metering, environment protection, and total quality management.
  8. Search for opportunities to collaborate in the future.
  9. Industry-sponsored research on real technological challenges faced by SSGC.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Prof. Dr. Mukhtiar Ali Unar thanked and appreciated the SSGC management for this initiative, which would strengthen the industry-academia collaboration. He outlined that academia and industry share a symbiotic relationship. Academia produces graduates who are absorbed by industry. Research work in the universities also benefit industry in various ways. He assured SSGC that MUET would fully collaborate and cooperate under this MOU for achieving the set objectives, which would benefit both the organisation.

SSGC management acknowledged the contribution of academia towards the global industrial development and expected that under this initiative Pakistan’s academia, which have great potential to deliver, would also help to solve the challenges and problems faced by the local industries.
