NCRA Condition Monitoring Systems Lab in collaboration with Department of Industrial Engineering and Management organized Two days 1.5 CPD workshop on “Condition Monitoring (Vibrational Analysis)” on 24th and 25th November 2020. The resource persons for the workshop were Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Shaikh, Prof. Dr. Tanweer Hussain, and Engr, Umer Aftab. This workshop was organized with support from ORIC MUET and PEC. The organizing chairs for this workshop were Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry (Co-PI NCRA CMS Lab) and Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Soomro (Chairman Ind. Eng. & Mngt. Dept). The coordinators for the seminar were Engr. Dileep Kumar Soother (Design Engineer/Research Associate, NCRA CMS Lab MUET), Engr. Sanaullah Mehran Ujjan (Programmer/Research Assistant, NCRA CMS Lab MUET), and Engr. Wazir Ali Shar (Teaching Assistant, Ind. Eng. & Mngt. Dept).

The workshop began with the recitation of Holy Quran by Engr. Miskeen Gopang. After that Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Shaikh took the dice to thank the attendees for joining the workshop and acknowledged the effort and commitment of the resource person from Chamtech Engr. Umer Aftab for providing the students with great training opportunity on such short notice. He expressed gratitude to his team for coordinating and working hard for conceptualization of the CPD workshop and invited Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Soomro to say few words about the importance of the workshop. Prof. Dr. Abdul Salam Soomro appreciated efforts of Dr. Shakeel Ahmed Shaikh and Prof. Dr. Tanweer Hussain and concluded his remarks by thanking Prof. Dr. Bhawani Shankar Chowdhry for his efforts to create a collaborative environment among university departments and his valuable assistance for arranging the workshop.

After the acknowledgment Prof. Dr. Tanweer Hussain formally started the session. He shed light on the importance of Vibrational analysis-based Condition Monitoring in the maintenance industry. He discussed the basic concepts of the vibrational analysis in detail and emphasized how it is in-depth knowledge can open the doorways for job opportunities for the graduates. Then he handed over the session to Engr. Umer aftab for further explanation of the concepts. Engr. Umer aftab then discussed various aspects of vibrational analysis including spectral analysis, time domain signal analysis and different maintenance strategies followed in the industry.

The workshop was attended by a total of 30 multi-discipline and multi-organization attendees. Engineers from various organizations and universities attended this workshop including engineers from Master Wind Project Jhampir and large number of final year students from Mehran University. The active participation was from Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Mechatronic Engineering departments.

On 2nd day of the workshop, Engr. Umer Aftab covered hands on practice part of the workshop using the Vibexpert tools and Alignment test rig. In which he briefed the participants about the experiments using the Vibexpert for condition monitoring of industrial machines with a practical approach. Then, he allowed participants to practice on the equipment. In the end, there was a question & answer session. The attendees were eager to attend second level of the workshop in the future too.

Then, Engr. Dileep Kumar Soother started the concluding ceremony by calling Engr. Miskeen Ali Gopang for recitation of the verses from the Holy Quran.
