Webinar on "Latex-Document Preparation System" organized by the Department of Electronic Engineering

An online workshop on “Latex (Document Preparation System)” was organized by the Department of Electronic Engineering Final Year Project Committee on 5th September 2022. The resource person of the workshop was Engr. Azam Rafique Memon from Department of Electronic Engineering. The coordinators of the workshop were Dr. Attiya Baqai (Convener FYP Committee), Engr. Shoaib Khaskheli (Member FYPC) and Engr. Mehran Muhammad. The workshop was conducted online via MS Teams, there were more than 50 participants in the workshop. The workshop was focused to deliver fundamentals of latex, common commands to prepare a document, and a quick way to switch styles between multiple templates without the need to re-write the codes or change any formatting. It was also focused to guide about thesis writing and encourage final year students to prepare their thesis via latex.
The workshop was formally started by Engr. Mehran who invited Engr. Shoaib Hassan for the recitation of the Holy Quran. Successively, Prof. Dr. Arbab Nighat (Chairperson ES Department) was welcomed and requested to grace the participants with an opening speech where she welcomed all the attendees, including faculty members of the department and from other universities. Also, she acknowledged and encouraged the efforts of the organizing team. Prof. Dr. Attiya Baqai started the session by properly introducing the presenter Engr. Azam and highlighting the importance of Latex on various platforms from reports, articles, and thesis writing to more advanced research papers while also appreciating the efforts and cooperation of the workshop organizers Engr. Shoaib and Engr. Mehran and the resource person for the arrangements of the workshop.
After that, Engr. Azam Rafique started online workshop based on Latex was designed in such a way that not just beginners, but professional faculty members could also be benefited from that. The presentation covered various aspects to formulate a document in Latex such as document classes, packages, formatting, graphics, citations, equation writing, math typesetting, and commonly occurring errors. The presenter also discussed the two difficult parts of preparing any document via Latex and shared the easy-to-use solution to such complex issues. The participants were also performing the practice on their end via an online latex tool (i.e., overleaf.com).
The participants from Mehran University, Sindh University, and Malaysia attended the online workshop. The participants, who attended the workshop keenly considered the software’s importance as a tool for professional document preparation and thesis writing. The workshop was concluded with a Q/A session followed by the submission of a feedback form. Finally, Prof. Dr. Attiya was called for closing remarks and ending the session. She put an end by expressing gratitude to everyone for their participation.
