Workshop on Mendeley (A Reference Manager & Tool)

On the 15th of August 2023, a workshop on Mendeley was conducted for the 19ES batch by the Department of Electronic Engineering, Mehran University of Engineering and Technology at AV Hall, IIT Building. The workshop aimed to familiarize students with Mendeley, a reference management tool, and enhance their research and academic writing skills. The workshop was organized by the Final Year Project (FYP) committee of the department.
The workshop began with a recitation from the Holy Quran conducted by Emaan, invoking the blessings of Allah. Dr. Wajiha Shah, the Chairperson of the department, then addressed the attendees, emphasizing the significance of such workshops in academic development. She commended the FYP committee for their efforts in organizing the event and encouraging students to actively participate.
The workshop featured two esteemed resource persons who shared their expertise and insights on Mendeley. Professor Dr. Attiya Baqai, initiated the event presentation. Dr. M. Zaigham Abbas Shah, also contributed to the workshop as a resource person in support.
Professor Dr. Attiya Baqai commenced the workshop by introducing Mendeley and its importance as a reference management tool for academic research. She discussed the key features of Mendeley, including citation management and collaborative research capabilities. Dr. Baqai provided step-by-step guidance on setting up a Mendeley account, importing references, organizing a library, generating citations and bibliographies and using web importer and word cite plugin to enable smooth academic writing possible. Lastly, she also highlighted the benefits of Mendeley's social networking features, such as connecting with peers and sharing in research activites.
The workshop received positive feedback and appreciation from all the students and guests in attendance. The participants acknowledged the relevance and usefulness of Mendeley in their academic pursuits. They expressed their gratitude to Professor Dr. Attiya Baqai and Dr. M. Zaigham Abbas Shah for their valuable insights and engaging presentation style.
