Students of B.E, M.E, PhD and faculty members participated in this webinar. Dr. Abro said that the solid waste management is not the perplexing problem for developing countries but developed countries are still trying to figure out the sustainable method to deal with this menace. Currently Pakistan produces around 48.5 million tones with less than 50% of collection each day and this would be increased by increasing population & urbanization. Many of countries around the globe have a much-engineered mechanism of solid waste utilization and adopted well Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) approach and getting the good out of it. Pakistan can harness the alternative sources by abolishing the conventional approach of open dumping and Landfilling. This could be possible when solid waste is managed by well-equipped system of management and the system should include fundamentals of ISWM model i.e. policies, selection of technologies, and social awareness programs.Dr. Korai concluded that the ISWM is one of the best approaches to extract energy from solid waste in the country.
