Final Year Project
Undertaking a final year project is a compulsory requirement to be fulfilled for the award of the BE degree in Biomedical Engineering. It is assigned 6 credit hours, 3 in each of 7th and the 8th semesters. It starts at the beginning of the 7th semester with a literature review to decide the field of interest and the tentative title of the project to be carried out. The students are required to present their statement of purpose and the proposed methodology in the shape of a poster. The poster presentation is a compulsory component of the final year project. Experts from within the university and outside the university are invited to evaluate the poster presentations. The assessment is incorporated in the final award of the marks in the 7th semester.
The aim of the FYP is to give each student the opportunity to experience the engineering research process. Design projects include complex engineering problems related to the medicine, healthcare, and life sciences that are studied and analyzed before a solution is suggested, characterization of materials prepared is performed, methods proposed are evaluated, and the results are presented, which is assessed at the end of the 8th semester.
The projects can be undertaken individually or in small teams of a maximum of 4 students. The Final Year Projects in BME are inherently multidisciplinary in nature and often require more than one supervisor. The academic supervisor is a faculty member of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, whereas a group can have a co-supervisor anywhere from academia or industry.
CLOs and PLOs of the Final Year Project
CLOs for the final year project are defined as the part of the FYP policy. The CLOs of the 7th semester part of the FYP are general and apply to all the FYPs. Table 3.1 lists three general CLOs mapped with PLOs worked out for 7th semester part of all the Final Year Projects.

Eighth semester part of each FYP has four CLOs, of which first two are specific to the project undertaken. The two CLOs have to be worked out by the students and the supervisor. The last two CLO, however, are general and apply to all the FYPs. Table 3.3 lists four CLOs mapped with PLOs worked out for 8th semester part of all the Final Year Projects.
